Nestled south of Mexico City, with the most pleasant environment in the city is Coyoacán, today it is considered a neighborhood because of the immensity of Mexico city.
Coyoacán translated from Náhuatl means "place of coyotes".
Its privileged situation allowed it to become a prehispanic center on the shores of an ancient lake, seat of power during the reconstruction of Tenochtitlán and seat of the magnificent houses surrouding a Franciscan foundation of the XVI century (The church of San Juan Bautista).
Coyohuacan, it was founded by the Toltecs between the X and XII centuries AD. It was also the capital of New Spain when Hernán Cortes established after the destruction of Tenochtitlán and where torture of Cuauhtémoc, the last Aztec emperor took place. This is where the first town hall was established while Mexico City was undergoing reconstruction after Coyoacán was conquered.
